THE HEALING WORKS

In The Christian Science Journal (May, 1906), included in a list of historical facts, was this statement, now to be found on page vi of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany": "No one on earth to-day, aside from Mrs. Eddy, knows anything about Christian Science except as he has learned it from her and from her writings; and Christian Scientists are honest only as they give her full credit for this extraordinary work."

From this statement it can be understood that to become a successful practitioner of this Science consecrated and systematic study of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy is imperative. Pamphlets and periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor and all other authorized literature, serve a God-inspired purpose, but do not take the place of the Word found in the Scriptures and in the writings of our Leader, revealed to her by God. These textbooks contain all the truths that are needed to heal effectively and to present Truth in the simplest form in which it can be presented to the human consciousness.

In aiding humanity to solve its problems we must remember that it is not high-sounding phrases that the sufferer waits to hear. What is sought is the glad news of all the tender, merciful goodness of the loving Father, who sends no evil to His creation. It is the Christ, Truth, which binds up the brokenhearted and heals the painful wounds inflicted by the so-called carnal mind.
