SPIRITUAL FORCE VERSUS PHYSICAL FORCE

In recent years we have witnessed much progress in the understanding and harnessing of physical or material forces. But if the same time and energy that have been expended in the exploration of physical forces had been directed to the investigation of spiritual forces, men would not be the thwarted, disappointed, limited, and unhappy creatures they often seem to be.

Material forces are perceived and appreciated by the physical or material senses; while the forces of Spirit are not apparent to them. Physical forces are applied by human thinking. On the other hand, spiritual forces are demonstrated through spiritual understanding. Physical forces are generally controlled by the rules of chemistry and physics. Spiritual forces operate under the laws of Spirit, God.

Many people have difficulty in learning to use spiritual force because they expect to apply this force in the same manner that they apply physical forces. They expect the characteristics of spiritual force to be the same as those of physical or material forces; and when spiritual force fails to act or to be put into operation in accordance with certain patterns set by physical forces, there is discouragement and disappointment. It should be held firmly in mind that material laws and forces are completely opposite to spiritual laws and forces, because, as Christian Science reveals, the former are totally unreal.
