"THE ULTIMATUM OF PERFECTION"

In this age individuals in many lands and in all walks of life are daily proving the practicality of Christ Jesus' statement (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." These words of the master Christian's are closely linked with another of his instructions (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." The great truth which frees mankind from the self-imposed bondage of the material senses is the eternal fact that man in the image and likeness of God now is, always has been, and always will be perfect. God created the only man and the only universe there is; what He did not create can be nothing but an illusion.

Because of his unfailing understanding of the all-power of God and the perfection of God's creation, Jesus was able to cast out the darkness of false belief and restore harmony to those who sought his help. In order to avail ourselves of this power, we must seek to understand and to follow the Way-shower. To this end the Science of Christ was revealed to mankind through the inspired thought of Mary Baker Eddy. On pages 476 and 477 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy." This great truth of perfect God and perfect man is the basis of spiritual healing.

A lifetime is not sufficient in which to understand and demonstrate all of Christian Science, so profound are its teachings; and yet a single proposition accepted into consciousness humbly and without reservation brings with it its own demonstration, so great is the power of Truth. This was vividly illustrated in the experience of a student who had recently begun the study of Christian Science. A baby daughter fell seriously ill. After three trying days the baby was unable to bear her weight and lay listless in her crib. To complicate the problem, the child's face swelled on both sides with what is known as mumps.
