I did not take up the study of...
I did not take up the study of Christian Science for myself but for a loved one who was in great need of help. Soon after I began reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scripture" by Mary Baker Eddy, however, I knew that Science had come to me in answer to prayer, and I accepted it gratefully.
We have had many wonderful healings in Christian Science, but there is one that seems to be outstanding, because we did not have the help of a practitioner and were new in Science. My young son had been subject to croup all of his life, and I was caused great anxiety when he had attacks. Soon after I began studying Christian Science he was again attacked. The first thought that came to me was to apply material remedies, but then I remembered that I was studying Christian Science and that it heals, for we had had proof of it. I began to study and to work as well as I knew how, and when the child became so restless that I could not hold him and read too, I gave the book to my daughter, and she continued to read aloud. Finally we had proof of God's ever-presence, for suddenly the child dropped his head on my shoulder and breathed quietly, and in a few moments he was asleep. His healing has been permanent.
We have, had many healings and blessings since that time, and we are truly grateful to God and to Christ Jesus, also to Mrs. Eddy, who was pure enough to receive the revelation of Truth. I feel that my testimony would not be complete if I failed to express my gratitude for the friends who influenced me to take up the study of Christian Science and for all those who were so patient and kind. I am grateful to have had class instruction and to be a member of a branch church and of The Mother Church. The Sunday School, the practitioners, and our literature are also blessings for which I am most grateful. —(Mrs.) Stella Beatrice Mayfield, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
