A few years ago I was struggling...
A few years ago I was struggling with mental depression and nervous weakness. Although my condition made it difficult for me to go out, I did pull myself together one afternoon and went out for a walk in the countryside.
Mrs. Eddy says on page 182 of Science and Health, "The demands of God appeal to thought only." These words awakened me to the fact that the struggle with my condition had to be carried on in my thinking. Mrs. Eddy writes further, "Where the spirit of God is, and there is no place where God is not, evil becomes nothing,—the opposite of the something of Spirit" (ibid., p. 480). She continues, "Nerves are an element of the belief that there is sensation in matter, whereas matter is devoid of sensation."
It was helpful to ask myself, "For what are you standing? for material sense or for God's man?" I no longer gave room in my consciousness to material thoughts and concepts.
