ARE YOU EXPECTING GOOD TODAY?

What one is expecting largely determines whether his human experiences are to be harmonious or discordant. David wrote (Ps. 62:5), "My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him." David did not doubt that God was capable of supplying his needs and those of his people, whatever form those needs appeared to take. Always to look for good because we know God's laws are ever operating and governing His creation brings to our realization freedom, comfort, abundance, and achievement; while fear, the anticipation of evil, is the cause of most of the discord, sorrow, and failure in our lives.

On page 261 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy tells us the results of steadfast expectancy of good in these words: "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts." Therefore, we must be careful to open the door of our thought to nothing except God and the Christ, His spiritual idea or reflection. Then, as we resolutely hold to the good we know to be ever present, no sense of discouragement, insufficiency, debility, or sin can possibly enter to dispute the reign of harmony.

An elderly woman became in need of employment to maintain her home and human welfare. She read this promise in the Bible (Ps. 92:14): "They shall still bring forth fruit in old age." These words gave her courage. She reasoned: Did not Moses prove this promise to be true? At the age of eighty years he entered into the most strenuous period of his life, one which bore much fruit. He led the children of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. This required great courage, patience, and endurance. Through his spiritual enlightenment and love for God and man he saw his people's needs supplied for forty years amid the perils of the desert. At the age of one hundred and twenty his vigor, sight, and ability had not abated.
