I should like to express my sincere...
I should like to express my sincere gratitude for the many blessings that I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. My first healing came through reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. For several years I had been in poor health. I had undergone a major operation and had been taken home from the hospital with the doctor's prediction that I could not possibly live more than two months.
Neither my husband nor I knew anything about Christian Science, but a friend of his sent him to a Christian Science Reading Room, and he borrowed a copy of Science and Health. It was left on a small table by my bed unopened until the evening before it was to be returned. I then felt compelled to read it.
I began reading the chapter entitled "Prayer" and became so interested that I lost all sense of pain, weakness, and time. I read all night, and when morning came I knew I was completely healed.
On page 14 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter, —and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well." Fear and other aggressive suggestions of the carnal mind which had tried to hide the true vision of the real man in God's image and likeness were blotted out, and I found refuge in Truth. My thought was awakened to the true consciousness of being, to my real selfhood as a child of God.
I dressed and accompanied my husband to the city, where I not only returned the borrowed textbook, but purchased one of my own. That was over thirty-five years ago, and since that time Christian Science has met my every need. Many unpleasant traits of character have been overcome through my application of this wonderful truth.
A few years ago, while serving as First Reader in a branch church, I awoke one Sunday morning and was unable to speak. I immediately began working to know the truth concerning man, with never a thought of having to call a substitute. I knew that I would be in my right place and able to speak normally.
When I left home I could speak only in a whisper, but when I announced the first hymn and began reading the first verse, my voice became perfectly clear. Knowing that I was a servant of Truth, I was enabled to conduct the service in peace and with thanksgiving. This is only one more of the many healings that I have experienced, for which I am indeed grateful.
I am also very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for class instruction by a consecrated teacher. —(Mrs.) Maud H. Archer, Garvey, California.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I bear witness to the above testimony of my wife. I wish to add that through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science I have been able to overcome several discordant conditions. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.—Walter J. Archer.
