After suffering for several years...

After suffering for several years from chronic stomach trouble I left my country home to seek expert medical attention in a large city, where I stayed at my sister's home. While I was there a woman came to visit. She was a picture of health and radiated such happiness that I was impressed when she told us that she had turned to Christian Science and had been completely healed. Two years previously I knew that she had been suffering from consumption and had been given up by the doctors to die, and that she had lost a sister and brother within a few months of each other as a result of that disease.

Later I decided that I would try Christian Science. On visiting a practitioner I mentioned that I knew very little about religion, had never attended a church, and doubted if Christian Science could heal me. However, she agreed to help me and handed me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, to read while she gave me a treatment. Piles of a severe nature were instantly healed. Although I had not eaten normally for two years, I was told to eat anything I wished, and I did so with no ill effect. It was an instantaneous healing, and I gained over thirty pounds the first month.

The joy, happiness, and spiritual growth I experienced from serving as First Reader in an informal group of Christian Scientists cannot be expressed in words. Problem after problem, both for myself and for the group, was met, especially the subtle suggestion of antagonism toward Science and of limitation. Within two years we have become a progressive Christian Science Society.
