THE "DAILY PRAYER"

In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy we read (Art. VIII, Sect. 4), "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: 'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!"

This prayer is divided into three component parts, but its entirety is based upon the initial petition, "Thy kingdom come." To use this prayer intelligently, it is necessary for us to know what and where this kingdom is. In the Bible we read Jesus' words stating clearly that the kingdom of God is at hand, as near to us as our own thinking. Paul says that this kingdom is "righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost" (Rom. 14:17). We know that it is God's great gift to His children, for did not the Master say (Luke 12:32), "It is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom"? Christian Science teaches that this kingdom is the realm of infinite Mind, the atmosphere of Soul, the dwelling place of Spirit, which is come and is existing now as reality.

The Scientist realizes the need of letting the reign of divine Truth so control his consciousness that from its doors are removed all suggestions of falsehood, all pictures of lying sense testimony, all fear of evil. In the realm of Truth are found the attributes of accuracy, efficiency, and dependability. No mistakes and no carelessness can enter Truth's kingdom. He knows that this kingdom of Truth is within man, and as he demonstrates it he finds there is nothing in him to resist the power of Truth. The consciousness of Truth is never contaminated with thoughts of immoderation, moodiness, or hypocrisy.
