A MOTHER SPEAKS
I tried
to hold my child to me
By tender, anxious bands
Of self and pride and parenthood,
Tied fast with fearful hands.
But God's command made clear demand
That I should set him free
To spread his faltering, fledgling wings ...
To soar and sing and see.
And then I found, no longer bound,
He came of his own choosing.
I thank Thee, precious Mother-Love,
To loose does not mean losing.
