"INSISTENCE REQUISITE"

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3). This is the law of laws. It denies the right of any other power to exist and shows God, divine Mind, to be the only power, presence, and intelligence in the universe. Since it is God's law, it is enforced by divine authority. The enforcement of this law unfolds the harmony that necessarily exists by virtue of the Commandment itself, and establishes the fact of harmonious being.

Shortly before the outbreak of World War II a naval aviation cadet, who was also a Christian Scientist, became weary of his rigorous training, and his heart yearned for home. After praying over this desire he applied for special leave. The request was granted, but, like all furloughs, the few precious days at home passed all too quickly, and the cadet found himself returning to duty.

His mood was so utterly despondent that he could not bring himself to return to the naval air station. In desperation he sought out a local Christian Science Reading Room, hoping its comforting atmosphere would ease his homesickness. It was during that quiet hour of study and prayer that the realization of existence as harmonious, without beginning or end, came to him.
