SPEAK AS CHILDREN OF GOD

The old Swiss proverb which reads, "Speech is silvern. Silence is golden," does not always prove itself. There are times when speech can be a golden means for helping reveal the kingdom of God to those whose greatest need is to know of its instant and constant availability to men and nations.

Are we using speech as an active weapon in the fight to stem the seemingly desperate onslaught of error? Are we talking to awaken the indifferent, unenlightened, or bewildered thought of men to the ever-presence of God, Truth? Are we employing words as lively messengers to bear to others an understanding that God bestows the blessings of love, health, security, freedom, impartially to all?

If we are to be effective bearers of the healing Word, we must first heed the instructions of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, when she says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 117), "God is Spirit; therefore the language of Spirit must be, and is, spiritual." She adds in the same paragraph, "God's essential language is spoken of in the last chapter of Mark's Gospel as the new tongue, the spiritual meaning of which is attained through 'signs following.'"
