A HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY

[Of Special Interest to Children]

It was Thanksgiving Day, and Peter, John, and David were very happy and grateful because there was so much to be happy and grateful about. For one thing, they were going to the Thanksgiving service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, with their father and mother and then on to their grandmother's to spend the rest of the day. And spending the day with their grandmother was always fun. Grandmother had a way of making small boys happy. She always kept a candy jar filled with lemon drops which she placed on her dresser upstairs. It was a secret between her and her grandsons, and whenever they came to her house they lost no time in running to the old dresser.

Of course Peter, John, and David didn't save up all their thankfulness for Thanksgiving Day. They were thankful to God every day, for they had learned that God cares for them every moment of every day. One of the first Bible verses that they had learned was this beautiful one about Jesus (Luke 2:40): "The child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him." The boys had been taught that as they followed Jesus' example they, too, would grow strong in spirit, and God would give them wisdom and grace.

They had also early been taught to use the healing truth of Christian Science to help themselves and each other. Thus before they could even talk plainly they used this truth. They were glad that Mary Baker Eddy makes the Bible teachings so plain that even children can use the truth, just as she says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 37), "It is possible,— yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman,— to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness."
