THE HEALING OF THE NATIONS

In these days, when nearly all nations and peoples seem to be in a state of confusion and upheaval, when radical and impractical concepts of government are being advanced and found wanting, it is clear that the body politic is in as great need of healing as the body we call human. We are having many theories of government propounded, and we are witnessing many experiments; but true government as we understand it in Christian Science is not theoretical and is not dependent upon experiments. The government of God, divine Principle, is absolute fact and is always and forever established.

In hopeful and spiritual prophecy the Psalmist wrote (Ps. 22:27, 28): "All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the kingdom is the Lord's: and he is the governor among the nations." If and when every ruler, every person entrusted with government, yes, every citizen, knows this and places the responsibility for government where it belongs—with God—and knows that God, divine Mind, is governing His universe, including man, in perfect harmony right now, this knowing will inevitably be evidenced in universal peace on earth.

The world picture as it appears to human sense would try to make one believe that we are living in a modern Babel, a confused and discordant clamor of many minds, many tongues, races, and divergent concepts of government. But is this true? Christian Science declares that there is just one infinite Mind, and that this Mind is the Mind of man and therefore of mankind. If this is so in the reality of being, can it be true that there is a different mind operating in Russia from that in America or England? Is the Mind that actually and divinely must govern Germany or Sweden different from the one that in reality governs France?
