Florence, Oregon (Society).

Christian Science Society, Florence, Oregon, announces the dedication services of their new church edifice, Fifth and Gargnier Streets, located two blocks west of coast highway 101, to be held Sunday, August 3, 1952, at eleven o'clock in the morning and three thirty o'clock in the afternoon. ...

The history of Christian Science in Florence dates back to 1942, when a few students of Christian Science met Sunday mornings in private homes to read the Lesson-Sermons as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. Early in 1946 this group of earnest workers organized and held regular Sunday services and Wednesday evening testimony meetings. Later they applied for and received official recognition from The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and the first service of the newly formed society was held in July, 1946. The first lecture was given August 31, 1948, and as the preparatory work was completed a marked increase in Sunday School attendance followed, confirming their deep desire to give a yearly lecture.

Due to the growth in attendance the members voted to construct a new edifice befitting the dignity and beauty of a Church of Christ, Scientist, in the community. A choice building site conveniently located came as a result of prayerful meditation. Rapid progress was joyously watched as the true concept of building continued to unfold in the hearts of members.

In December, 1951, the construction of the church edifice was started. Truitt Woodworth, local contractor, ably handled the details of plans and materials and completed the edifice. ...

Grateful acknowledgment is given to the Selina C. Cornish Fund, and to the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy, who have so generously contributed to the fulfillment of the church building project. Heartfelt appreciation is extended to friends whose loving support and assistance have made the completion and dedication possible at this time.

The topic for the dedicatory services will be "Love." Golden Text, I John 4:8, "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."
