JANE ENTERTAINS ANGELS

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Jane loved to go with her mother to the testimony meetings at the Christian Science church. She loved to hear people tell how they had overcome the temptation to believe in a power apart from God.

As she listened Jane sometimes thought of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness and of his words (Matt. 4:10), "Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God. and him only shalt thou serve." She had learned this passage in Sunday School, and she knew that the verse which followed said, "Then the devil leaveth him. and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him."

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says "angels" are "God's thoughts passing to man" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 581). Jane saw that by letting God's thoughts govern him Jesus had overcome the suggestions of evil. "And it's just the same now." she said to herself. "We overcome error by thinking God's thoughts. When I'm grown up, I hope I'll be able to give a testimony saving I've done that!" But Jane did not have to wait so long as that.
