ETERNAL VERITIES

What are the basic facts of Christian Science? This question has often been asked by seekers for the truth since Mary Baker Eddy, our revered Leader, discovered Christian Science in 1866. A ready answer is at hand for those who earnestly and prayerfully study this Science.

The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, is remarkable in many ways. One of the reasons why it is so helpful to both new and experienced students of Christian Science is its frequent restatement of the basic truths upon which Christian Science is founded. One such statement may be found on pages 109 and 110 of this textbook: "The three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience,—Spirit possessing all power, filling all space, constituting all Science,—contradict forever the belief that matter can be actual. These eternal verities reveal primeval existence as the radiant reality of God's creation, in which all that He has made is pronounced by His wisdom good."

In denying that matter is actual it is sometimes necessary for us first to erase the impressions about matter which we have admitted into our consciousness. If we encounter doubt or despair in this process, we should turn to Christ, Truth, to find reality and to demonstrate it. The Apostle Paul assures us (II Cor. 5:17), "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
