I attended a Christian Science Sunday School...

I attended a Christian Science Sunday School from my earliest years. Through what I learned there and from the example of a mother who is a consecrated Scientist, I knew that Christian Science is the truth and the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus. Yet I did not accept it wholeheartedly until I entered the Air Force at the age of nineteen in World War II. Then, indeed, I needed Christian Science, and the years that followed were ones of great progress, for much that was undesirable in my thinking came up to be destroyed.

I shall ever feel grateful for the great overturning that took place in my consciousness, particularly during the initial period of training. The seed sown by consecrated teaching in the Sunday School bore much fruit, and wonderful unfoldment and great joy came at each step of progress.

Love began to replace resentment and criticism, humility to replace self-love and self-justification, and trust in God to replace human planning and ambition. Many unlovely traits of character disappeared and with them a number of minor physical difficulties which I had long believed were an inevitable part of my make-up. One of these was a tendency to headaches. This condition disappeared without specific work in Science and was a part of the marked improvement in health which I began to enjoy.
