GROWTH AND DUTY

THE Christian Scientist many times has the joyous privilege of reviewing demonstrations resulting from his own spiritual understanding. But he humbly desires increased understanding that he may attain ever higher demonstrations of God's goodness and presence and prove that boundless good is his rightful heritage. He recognizes that his duty is to express good in daily living.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, attaches a great deal of importance to duty. In the Manual of The Mother Church she states (Art. VIII, Sect. 6): "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself dailyagainst aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind. By his works he shall be judged,—and justified or condemned."

Progress for the Christian Scientist is possible only through spiritual growth, which is brought about by dedicating his life to good and conforming strictly to its moral and spiritual demands. He is careful to be mentally on guard against whatever is foreign to the teachings of Christian Science.
