I accepted Christian Science...

I accepted Christian Science wholeheartedly from the very first, and through the years I have had an unbounded faith that "with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27) and that, as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."

At one time one of our children was suffering from a physical condition which had existed for two weeks. We talked of God as taught in Christian Science and studied the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, but the healing did not come. So with deeper sincerity we turned to our Father-Mother God. How mortal mind argued: "You could use material means to help him; it would not be using medicine." But the answer came each time, "No, we do not need anything but the truth." And in anguish I prayed, "O Father, help me never to turn to anything but Thee." Instantly the healing came, and never again did that problem present itself. Our gratitude was so great that we both humbly knelt and thanked God.

At another time, when this child was about two years old, I was awakened one night by his coughing and struggling to get his breath. I had been studying Christian Science only about four months, and I was frightened because I felt I knew so little, yet help was needed immediately. I wrapped the child in a blanket and took him in my arms, praying fervently to be helped. I held Science and Health in in hand, but I was too excited to read; so I just kept on talking to God. Soon the child relaxed in my arms and fell asleep. With a sense of complete freedom I put him back in bed, and soon I was sound asleep myself, awakening in the morning to find him completely free. I do not recall that he ever had another attack.
