THE FRUITS OF SERVING GOD

We all know there is nothing more rewarding that to be serving in a capacity that brings forth satisfying results. It is always an inspiration to do better work after seeing the benefits of work well done. But while we look forward to the results, do we always look forward to the serving which brings about the results?

Jesus knew better than anyone the joy and satisfaction of work well done. After he had been teaching, preaching, and healing every sickness among the people, his compassion for the multitudes caused him to say to his disciples (Matt. 9:37, 38), "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."

Today we have the same opportunity to serve mankind and heal it of all its diseases as did those in Jesus' time. Mary Baker Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 570): "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink. Give them a cup of cold water in Christ's name, and never fear the consequences." Perhaps the cup of cold water which we can give is some service in a Christian Science branch church. If so, no argument of family ties, social engagements, physical problems, love of ease, or timidity should cause us to delay giving this cup. After he had washed their feet, Jesus said to his disciples (John 13:14, 15): "If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feel; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given your an example, that ye should do as I have done to you."
