Over a period of years I had become more and more confused in my thinking until I doubted the sincerity of nearly all who professed to be Christians. I was convinced that God had no interest in man and that my life was dependent on chance. Then a cousin and her husband who had recently taken up the study of Christian Science and been greatly benefited told us of their experiences.

A little later my wife and I decided to attend a Sunday morning service at a Church of Christ, Scientist. During this service I was filled with a sense of peace and joy, and on the following day I discovered that I was healed of profanity. We immediately started the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and discarded the use of all material remedies. We also enrolled our three children in the Christian Science Sunday School. In about two weeks the smoking habit of many years' standing dropped away, although I had said that I would not give up smoking.

Our oldest son came home from school one Friday afternoon with a so-called children's disease. My wife called a practitioner, and through the work done for him in Christian Science he was able to return to school on the following Monday morning entirely healed.
