Testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals have often provided me with courage or fresh impetus when I have been faced with a problem. Many times the experiences of others have enabled me to detect errors in my own thinking. I can remember returning from a vacation to find our young son suffering from an abscess in the ear. Those with whom we had left him had had the ear lanced twice. I felt no resentment that my instructions had been disregarded, because I knew that they had done what seemed best to them. We immediately, however, discontinued medical help and called a Christian Science practitioner.

For what seemed to be a long time the child was in pain and kept asking us to do something. With a feeling close to panic I opened a Sentinel to a testimony which related a healing of the same condition. In this case the ears of the child had been lanced seven times with no relief. I saw at once that I had been entertaining the thought that if the abscess were lanced just once more, it might help the child. This false suggestion was wiped out of thought and total reliance was placed on God. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." The child slept all night and was free in the morning.

A small child was healed of chronic colds when I stopped using Christian Science merely to bring about physical well-being and employed it to glorify God. Twins and another baby were born in the home without fear or pain, and I am grateful for the services of two Christian Science nurses in these experiences.
