"And I, if I be lifted up from...
"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me" (John 12:32). These words of Jesus' were fulfilled for me the day I first attended a Christian Science Sunday School, for I was drawn to the love expressed there. For many years I attended the Sunday School, where I received and shared the blessings of Christian Science study.
I was fearful, nervous, frail, and shy, but with the help of my grandfather, who was a consecrated student of Christian Science, I was able to overcome these erroneous conditions as well as poor hearing and a tendency to take cold. He very lovingly showed me how to prove myself a child of God as the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, teach.
My parents, too, took up the study of this wonderful religion, and it brought many blessings to our home. Through the loving help of a practitioner my mother was healed of a severe nervous breakdown, accompanied by other ills which threatened her life and sanity.
When I was attending college, I found further opportunities to prove God's allness. I was healed of laryngitis, ringworm, and a fractured arm. One of the girls in the dormitory who was not a Christian Scientist, witnessing the quickness of the healing of ringworm, was much impressed. I was very grateful indeed for an opportunity to let my light shine.
I also found Christian Science to be a wonderful help in my studies. Whenever I felt that I was to be confronted with a particularly difficult examination, I went immediately to the Bible and Christian Science textbook for the answers to my problems. When I had succeeded in removing fear and a false sense of responsibility, I found the answers flowing from my pen.
My husband and I were married during World War II, and as I followed him from Army camp to Arms camp, we often had to prove the words of Christ Jesus (John 14:2), "In my Father's house are many mansions:... I go to prepare a place for you." I am so grateful for the consecrated work and help of the Christian Science Wartime Ministers and Workers everywhere. The services which they held at Army, Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard installations were a protection, guidance, and inspiration to all of us.
I am grateful for the privilege of being soloist in a branch church. Through this activity I have been able to prove many times the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in her Message to The Mother Church for 1900 (p. 11), "Mind, not matter, makes music." Some time ago I had a cold which rendered my voice useless. I became fearful, and although I could not be in my place on Sunday, I was determined not to let error interfere again with my right activity, and so on the next Sunday I took my place on the rostrum, although I could scarcely speak properly. I kept declaring that as a reflection of God I could only express harmony and perfection. As I rose to sing my solo, my thought was completely lifted away from a material body, and I was free from any limitation and sang the solo in a normal voice.
For the constant unfoldment of the truth through my study and application of Christian Science I am deeply grateful. And I am most grateful for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who rejected personal ease and security to bring an understanding of this truth to all who sincerely seek it,—(Mrs.) Georgianna W. Smith, Fort Myers, Florida.
It is with much gratitude and joy that I verify the above testimony of my daughter, for I witnessed a beautiful change in this child after Christian Science was brought into our home by her grandfather. I am so grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School.
I feel that I owe my life and presence here to the application of Christian Science at a testing time. By holding to the statement, "God is m Life," and with the help of a consecrated practitioner, I was lifted above the suggestion of death. I am most grateful for Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Annie Lambert Williams, Monroe, Louisiana.
