RECEPTIVITY AND OPPORTUNITY

Receptivity to spiritual good is the starting point of Christian Science healing. When the two blind men appealed to Jesus for help, he asked (Matt. 9:28), "Believe ye that I am able to do this?" And on their replying affirmatively he said, "According to your faith be it unto you."

Lack of receptivity to the boundless good which divine Love is pouring forth constantly is not the truth regarding man. Being immortal, the expression or reflection of God, man exists at the standpoint of completeness, at one with God. Lack of receptivity implies separation from God, and for man to be separated from his source is an impossibility. The real man does not fluctuate between acceptance and rejection of good, confidence and doubt, abundance and lack, but is ever conscious of God's loving providence. Anyone who recognizes his own spiritual selfhood and his oneness with God as His idea, and who persistently affirms these positive concepts, can prove the efficacy of Science in his affairs.

"How," it may be asked, "may one enhance his understanding of man's oneness with all good?" When through Christian Science one earnestly seeks knowledge of God and His goodness, when belief develops into faith in God as infinite good, when thought is enlightened by inspiration and made teachable through humility, then one is led to the threshold of spiritual hearing and seeing, and man is found to exist eternally at one with God.
