A BOY SOLDIER'S PRAYER

O God , our Lord, who draw all to Your light,
You called Moses, Your shepherd, and he saw
A mountain bush enfold Your flaming might;
On Sinai Your truth shone forth as law.
O Lord, who led him onward through a maze
Of tricks and sharp rebukes and sharper trials
And plagues that tried through dragging days and days,
Until hot hate had opened all wrath's vials,
Be with us now! Oh, listen to our prayer!
Oh, light and lead us to that fairer land
Where all receive new strength to rise and bear,
With calm assurance, rich traits from Your hand.
There shall our angels give us laws that pour
Truth out, annihilating sin and war.
