MENTAL STATES

Christian Science consistently discloses that every condition or situation in which one finds himself is mental, is the effect of certain states of thought, regardless of how concretely material it may appear to be. Furthermore, Christian Science presents the cure for all human ills in the understanding that God is the only Mind and that nothing has genuine existence but divine Mind and its spiritual ideas. This places the carnal mind, which evolves matter and is concerned only with it, in the category of unreality.

When one comprehends these facts his attitude toward matter and its conditions is changed, and he is convinced that he must heal his state of thought if he would enjoy good health and grow in spiritual grace and freedom.

The analysis of matter as a subjective state of consciousness was a speculation in the philosophical field before the discovery of Christian Science, but Mary Baker Eddy alone made it a practical factor in healing. She says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 108, 109), "My discovery, that erring, mortal, misnamed mind produces all the organism and action of the mortal body, set my thoughts to work in new channels, and led up to my demonstration of the proposition that Mind is All and matter is naught as the leading factor in Mind-science."
