I have received so much good from the testimonies of others that I should like to share a few of my experiences, hoping that someone will be benefited thereby. I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing. Indeed, I may say that I turned to this Science quite against my will. At the time I was a member of an orthodox church and was opposed to what I believed Christian Science to be. I had several friends who were Christian Scientists, and I would try to argue with them, but without success. One day one of them asked me if I had ever read the textbook of Christian Science. When I admitted that I had not, he advised me to get a copy and read it, so that I would know something about it, if I really wanted to discuss it.

This seemed to me only reasonable; so I borrowed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I did not read it straight through, nor did I read it with an open mind. I skipped around in the text and tried to pick out isolated statements to argue about. In spite of this attitude, the irresistible logic of the textbook began to impress me.

One night when I was in a distant city far from friends and home I suffered an attack of lumbago. The two winters preceding I had had similar attacks and had obtained the best medical attention available. I was told that there was no cure and was given a sedative. When this last attack came, the only reason I did not call a doctor was that I did not have the money to pay for his services. I could not sleep for pain, and I turned to God in prayer. Then there came to me the angelic message to try what I had learned from Science and Health, and I went to work along the lines of what I remembered from my reading. I have no recollection of when the pain left me; I only remember awakening from a refreshing sleep. The darkness had been succeeded by a glorious dawn. The pain had vanished, never to return. I was healed.
