THE LECTURE AUDIENCE

Again , as on the shore of Galilee,
The multitude is waiting to be fed,
Waiting by time's ever-ebbing sea
The breaking of imperishable bread.

Again, as when the famished thousands were
Sitting humbly in the grassy place,
These sit in meek expectance even here,
In grateful contemplation of God's grace.

And here, as when five barley loaves were broken
By the Master's word to furnish needful food,
The truth, now understood and clearly spoken,
Shall amply feed the hungering multitude.

For these shall know, as those, Christ's gentleness,
Whose purpose is to heal, restore, and bless.
