Signs of the Times

Stephen J. England in Front Rank St. Louis, Missouri

The value of the Bible is due to its character. The Christian believes that God has revealed Himself, not leaving man to grope in moral and spiritual uncertainty as to what God desires. The revelation was, in ancient times, given to men by the prophets; it came in supreme degree in the person of Jesus Christ. The record of God's revelation stands in the Bible, our incomparable help in living.

The Psalmist vividly describes what God's word is and does. It may be described as a law, or revelation of all God's character; a testimony to God's nature; precepts, or instructions; commandments that require obedience, producing fear or reverence in him who accepts it and including ordinances or moral judgments. Use of it restores the soul; makes the unlearned wise about God, which is the highest wisdom; brings joy to the heart; illumines the moral judgment as to right and wrong; and brings refreshment to the soul.
