About twenty years ago my study...
About twenty years ago my study of Christian Science began as the outcome of a sermon preached against it. The minister did not mention the name "Christian Science" in his public statements, but for some reason my thought placed his remarks there, and I felt he was very much mistaken. Up to that time I had known two Christian Scientists and had attended church only once with each of them; yet I knew within myself that such accusations could not be true. I arranged to borrow the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In a very few minutes of reading, my unsure defense of this religion had turned to firm conviction of its truth.
At the time of this experience I was under medical treatment for an eczema condition inside my ears and had taken two of eight prescribed injections calculated to ward off an impending nervous breakdown. Although I did not investigate Christian Science with the thought of healing, I was healed instantly of these two conditions after I had read only the Preface to Science and Health and the first chapter, entitled "Prayer." Through what I later learned was radical reliance on Truth, I recognized that at last I had found the truth for which I had been searching, and I knew that I needed no more medicine or doctors. I destroyed my entire supply of remedies and never returned for the remaining injections. There has been no return of either condition, and when added duties tempt me to fatigue, Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 89 of Science and Health is always effective, "We are all capable of more than we do."
Blessings have continued to flow from God throughout these years. Financial needs have been miraculously met and diseases either prevented or quickly healed. As a mother I had to learn that I must trust my child to the one Father-Mother, God. When at one time I overcame a false sense of responsibility for the child's well-being, she was healed.
