Over a period of twenty years...

Over a period of twenty years Christian Science has been our only physician. Innumerable ills have been healed, including severe burns, chronic tonsillitis, acute indigestion, skin infection, and many others impossible to name, because they were never diagnosed.

A growth on my finger was extremely painful, and since I am a musician, I was greatly inconvenienced by it. One night I was in such pain that I was almost desperate. I opened "The First Church of Christ. Scientist, and Miscellany" by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and these words stood out (p. 220): "God bless my enemies; make them Thy friends; give them to know the joy and the peace of Love." I searched my consciousness to see if I could honestly and sincerely say this prayer. I was not conscious of any latent or secret hate or resentment, but after a short period of prayerful work I remembered a circumstance in my childhood when I seemed to be very badly treated and realized I had harbored a deep-seated sense of resentment or hate in connection with it. In a short while this resentment melted away and a sense of peace and well-being took complete possession of me. I retired and slept well all night for the first time in weeks.

It was two days before I realized the healing had started to take place; the growth dried up and dropped off, leaving a hole in the end of my finger which soon filled up. This healing was the culmination of three weeks' work by a faithful practitioner.
