I have much to be grateful for since becoming a student of Christian Science over eighteen years ago, but one proof of the healing power of Truth stands out above all the others, not only because of the remarkable physical healing, but because of the wonderful spiritual growth that came to me with this experience.

One afternoon sixteen years ago our daughter, age ten, our son, five, my brother-in-law, and I were in a serious automobile accident. The children were thrown from the car; falling out of the door, I landed under the car; my brother-in-law was not badly hurt and was the only one conscious. Our son was taken to a nearby hospital, and our daughter and I to a hospital across the town. When my mother, husband, and sister were notified, they immediately brought a practitioner to me, although they were opposed to what they thought Christian Science to be.

The physician who examined our daughter and me gave me thirty-five minutes to live, saying my lung was punctured and my shoulder blade broken. By this time I had regained consciousness, and the practitioner had talked to me. Our daughter was severely cut, but was not pronounced in grave danger. As long as my husband would not turn wholeheartedly to Christian Science for the boy, I asked that the doctors at the hospital let me know if the boy were beyond their help. Of course, I refused am further medical aid and surprised the family and physicians by improving rather than passing on. I consented to have my shoulder taped, and that was the extent of any material treatment administered to me.
