Signs of the Times

Chaplain Fred C. Reynolds in an address published in The Military Chaplain Washington, D.C.

This association of chaplains, organized to safeguard the forces of faith and morality, must go into action against ... forces of evil. In this hour of national crisis a special responsibility rests upon us, representing as no other group the united religious front of America. Listen to these appeals from our nation's leaders. The Honorable Mr. Frank Pace, Jr., Secretary of the Army, in his message of greetings to this convention says: "The moral fiber of our efforts for national defense can never be allowed to weaken; it is the true foundation for any physical strength we can hope to attain, and our chaplains are the special guardians of that moral fiber."

The Honorable Mr. Thomas K. Finletter, Secretary of the Air Force, in his message to this convention says: "The traditions of our American form of government have been built on a solid foundation of religion. Any assistance that you men of God may give to the American people in this hour of crises will have a direct and good influence on our future."
