During my childhood my father...

During my childhood my father was healed in one Christian Science treatment of a siege of illness from which attending physicians held out no hope of recovery.

We lived too far from a Christian Science church to attend services, but through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and through family fireside study we had many proofs of the allness of God. The first healing I actually witnessed was that of an infant sister. who became violently ill one night. The first I knew of it my father was standing beside my bed saying: "Come downstairs and help me. The baby is sick;" and as he started away, he turned back and whispered, "Mother needs help more than the baby." There was no time for dillydallying or doubting. Soon the two of us were singing an old, loved hymn, "The great Physician now is come." We knew no Christian Science hymns as yet. Even as we sang, my mother clasped the child to her and declared that it had passed on. Undaunted, we sang right on, and a complete healing came quickly.

One day I entered a mare's stall to take her from the stable. As she started backward, she slipped and struck me with a heavily shod hoof, cracking my anklebone. No bandage or splints were applied, and I was soon walking without difficulty. An uncle warned me that the injury would cause more or less trouble always, for that had been his experience through many years. But God's counsel was, "Fear thou not" (Isa. 41:10). There is no trace of the injury, and I have forgotten which ankle it was.
