Signs of the Times
The Rev. Thomas Reeve in a letter in St. Chad's Parish Magazine Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England
So long as we are seeking within ourselves for the standards of conduct, for power to lift life above its present level, for salvation from sin and wrong, we are looking for something which is not there to find; and this is true of man both individually and collectively.
The fullness of personal life, of complete happiness and well-being, lies not in man but in God, who alone can give to humanity the unity, guidance, and moral power which we so desperately need. That is why at this time the best thing we can do for the future of mankind and for our own personal life is to cultivate our life with God both privately and publicly, so that the reign of God in the hearts of men may once more become the real and determining factor in human affairs.
