I was brought up in an orthodox...

I was brought up in an orthodox church and followed its teachings until I witnessed the sufferings of my mother and heard her cries to God for mercy. As none appeared to be vouchsafed, I turned away from what I considered to be a merciless God. Although I never wholly abandoned my conviction that there was a God of love who answered prayer, I knew not where He was to be found until I went to live with some folks who, I afterwards discovered, were Christian Scientists.

The Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, were often abut the house. The Scriptures I was familiar with, but Science and Health I had never heard of. Sometimes I picked up this book and opened it at random. Invariably my eye lighted on some passage regarding the unreality of matter or evil. This teaching was diametrical to my former instruction, and as my body was beginning to manifest alarming symptoms, I used to put the book down wondering how these folks could accept such teachings. However, to oblige them I started to read it from the beginning. The first thing that impressed me was its logic, but I used to say to myself, "If only it were true!" Little did I know that it was the truth and that it was soon to heal me.

I continued to read and soon became so interested that I could scarcely put the book down. One day I realized that the physical trouble which I had had was gone. When this healing took place I do not know. I am very grateful for this early proof that the healing of serious diseases can take place by simply reading the textbook of Christian Science.
