Christian Science Committees on Publication REPORT ON RELATIONS WITH THE CLERGY

[From annual reports]

Lanarkshire, Scotland

Four ministers of an orthodox church gave specially advertised sermons on Christian Science. This Committee had interviews with all of those gentlemen, three of whom agreed that the church had reason to be grateful to Christian Science for having brought to its attention the necessity for Christian healing as recorded in the Scriptures, but each and all of them confused the healing called "Quimbyism" with healing as it is taught by Mary Baker Eddy. One of the four preached a second sermon on the subject, but on this occasion made it clear that "Quimbyism" and Christian Science had nothing in common. This correction followed a visit to the minister when well-authenticated proof of the facts was read from "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur.

Yet another minister preached a sermon on the subject. He made a strong argument for Christian Science. On being interviewed at the close of the service he said that he had a copy of the textbook, that he read it daily and turned to it for help in every difficulty. He was convinced that the healings recorded in the Bible and those accomplished through the teachings of Mrs. Eddy were similar.
