TRADE, EXCHANGE, AND CURRENCY

It is helpful to pause and look away from the present-day picture of restricted trade, exchange, and currency to the realm of the real, God's universe, and to think of nations and trade and currencies from a metaphysical standpoint. In Christian Science we are taught to reverse the material picture in order to view things in their proper spiritual perspective. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."

Christian Science teaches us to turn to the spiritual realm for the solution of our problems, to look away from matter to God, divine Mind, as the cause of all that is real, of all that truly exists. Doing so, we discover that the place we are actually in is God's universe, the spiritual creation of God. There can be no inharmony there, no lack of freedom of movement, of thought; no restriction of the capacity or faculty of reflecting good. We see in the realm of Spirit only one God, one Mind, one cause, one creator, with no room for any other, since God is infinite, filling all space. There can be no separation between God and His idea, no divisions of any kind, for God is indivisible, and His realm is indivisible, infinite, precluding the existence of any other.

The government of this spiritual realm, man's only dwelling place, is the government of God, the law of Principle, the only law, and it is revealed to us through the Science of Christianity. By this law all that exists operates for good, and only for good. Whatever exists in reality can operate in no other way, since divine Principle alone is power. True government, then, is operative only for good and does not, cannot, restrict right effort, any effort in the furtherance of the Father's business.
