PROOFS OF OUR PIETY

Mary Baker Eddy says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 25), "Though demonstrating his control over sin and disease, the great Teacher by no means relieved others from giving the requisite proofs of their own piety." As loyal Christian Scientists, we should expect to furnish these conclusive proofs daily. No lesser demonstration of Truth than the actual overcoming of evil conditions, tendencies, or appearances in our lives will assist men to progress toward the perfection of reality, in which sin, sickness, and death have no part.

We prove the unreality of mortal mind when, by knowing and understanding the omnipotence of God, divine Mind, we destroy sin and sickness and their so-called effects on the body. Human beings awaken to the true concept of Life only when they understand that there is no life apart from God. Our overcoming of material sense and its falsities alone gives certain attestation that Life is God.

To the individual fearfully stumbling in an unlighted room, the dark is very real. Yet one ray of light admitted into a room proves conclusively that darkness is only the absence of light, hence has no reality, no existence. To one stumbling through a sense of physical existence, greed, envy, self-righteousness, vanity, suspicion, pain, seem very real. But one ray of Truth, as understood in Christian Science, dispels the gloom and proves conclusively the unreality of mortal sense.
