THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way," the Psalmist declares (37:23). He also assures us (149:4), "The Lord taketh pleasure in his people." Christian Science teaches that the good man is the spiritual man, having no rival in the form of a bad mortal man. God, good, is not the creator of both perfection and imperfection, for, according to the Bible, all that He made is "very good."

Like begets like. A rose in front of a mirror could not show forth the form of a serpent. The reflection is like the rose, not a leaf or petal of which differs from the original itself. Similarly man, God's spiritual idea, reflects the one perfect Mind, the Mind which knows and expresses in its idea nothing unlike itself, but only perfection, harmony, and goodness.

When the Master objected to the salutation, "Good Master," he was denouncing a finite, personal sense of good. The spiritual law he expounded increases faith in God, good, and furthers the understanding that matter is not true in any instance. This law operates to bless all alike in the destruction of mankind's ignorance of what good is, the foe which leads to sin, disease, destruction, and desolation. Mary Baker Eddy writes on page 228 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "The humble Nazarene overthrew the supposition that sin, sickness, and death have power. He proved them powerless."
