Having had many wonderful...
Having had many wonderful proofs of the healing power of Christian Science, I should like to share one or two with the readers of our periodicals. Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 185), "The spiritualization of our sense of man opens the gates of paradise that the so-called material senses would close, and reveals man infinitely blessed, upright, pure, and free; having no need of statistics by which to learn his origin and age, or to measure his manhood, or to know how much of a man he ever has been: for, 'as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.'"
During the so-called depression a member of The Mother Church gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but I never really studied this book in earnest until the lack of harmony in my home was suggesting divorce. Desperate, I asked for treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, and during the period of study which followed this interview the tobacco habit, which had been attached to me for sixteen years, dropped off without any specific work on my part. This healing was miraculous to me, because I had tried every method of quitting known to mortals and had smoked a package of cigarettes a day.
When I saw the practitioner again, I was much elated, overjoyed with the change in my home life which was already apparent through this glimpse of what Christian Science is. I said I wished to join The Mother Church, and she told me that I could not become a member unless I was free of smoking and drinking habits. Joyfully I told her that I had been healed of the one and could easily shed the other, as I merely drank to be sociable.
