It is with the feeling of paying a debt long since due that I write this expression of my gratitude to God for Christian Science. My parents became interested in Science when I was about twelve years old, and until I was about eighteen I had the glorious privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School.
As a child I saw many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science, both in my own experience and in that of others of my family. However, at the age of eighteen I started to drift away from Science. It was never that I doubted that Mary Baker Eddy's revelation was the ultimate truth of God and man, but rather that I was mesmerized with the false belief that an existence apart from God's spiritual creation could give me satisfaction and enjoyment. I thought to myself, "I will enjoy the pleasures of matter now, while I am young, and sometime later I will go back to the study of Christian Science."
Of course I found no real, lasting pleasure from this belief, and when, on occasion, I would find myself confronted with a disturbing problem, I would turn to Christian Science and invariably find the solution. Yet each time, after my need was met, I would slip back into the old beliefs.
