LOVE'S EDICT
That God, divine Love, is supreme is evident to those who yield their nature and aims to His edict, for they find themselves protected and sustained by a power higher than human belief can evince. What does Love decree for man? What is the true order of existence? Mary Baker Eddy, who awakened spiritually to discern creation as God makes it, declares in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 278), "Love rules the universe, and its edict hath gone forth: 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me,' and 'Love thy neighbor as thyself.'" And to reassure her followers in the face of challenging testimony contrary to what she discerned, Mrs. Eddy adds, "Let us have the molecule of faith that removes mountains,—faith armed with the understanding of Love, as in divine Science, where right reigneth."
When our faith in God is "armed with the understanding of Love," we perceive a far different scene from that which the eye discloses. We perceive a kingdom which only Love could evolve, a kingdom where harmony and freedom of action are the natural order because there is no insubordination to Love. There divine Love is All and enforces its own decrees. There man, the obedient idea of Mind, loves infinitely and impartially as Love's expression.
Identifying himself as Mind's idea, controlled by Love, one demonstrates his immunity from every evil thing—from unjust impositions of governments, from the tyranny of individuals, from laws of matter, from danger of bodily destruction. But obedient he must be if he hopes for the protection and freedom that obedience to God brings.
