Dear Friends:

We welcome you most heartily on this occasion when you are met to hear testimony to the glorious fruitage of the Christian Science periodicals, which our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was divinely led to establish.

In announcing the founding of The Christian Science Journal, Mrs. Eddy expressed the hope and expectation that through this monthly magazine Christian Science would reach many homes, carrying "a healing, purifying thought;" and she added, "A great work already has been done, and a greater work yet remains to be done" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 7). With the publication of the Journal, she started this "greater work" of spreading the gospel of Christian Science throughout the world, to be followed by the Christian Science Sentinel, a weekly magazine, The Herald of Christian Science in its several editions, and our great daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.
