NO GHOSTS TO FEAR

[Of Special Interest to Children]

David was six years old. As long as he could remember he had gone to the Christian Science Sunday School. During the week he tried very hard to put into practice what he learned there. For instance, one Sunday the teacher had read to them from the Bible (I John 4:8), "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

How plain it was that one must be loving if he wants to understand God! So each child resolved to be kind and gentle and patient all week long. The following Sunday each one felt that he knew more of God as Love, because he had been loving. Also, as their teacher pointed out, where all was Love, there was nothing to be afraid of.

On another Sunday the teacher read to them from Mary Baker Eddy's beautiful textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 312), "Mortals try to believe without understanding Truth; yet God is Truth." Then teacher and children talked about some of the qualities which come from Truth, such as honesty and obedience. David and his friends agreed that they wanted very much to know God as Truth. So, during the coming week they promised to practice honesty and obedience.
