My first written testimony appeared...

My first written testimony appeared in these periodicals in 1934, and for the blessings, opportunities, and progress which I have enjoyed since that time my grateful thanks are indeed overdue.

In 1935 it was my privilege to spend a week in Boston. The evidence all around of the magnitude of Mrs. Eddy's work and influence, and the love, friendliness, unique order, and consecration to the Cause of Christian Science on the part of all with whom I came in contact have been an inspiration to me on many occasions during the intervening years.

Like every other student of Christian Science, I have had blessings too numerous to relate in one testimony; but one that comes readily to mind is the protection I received from what could have been a fatal accident. The lift in the block of flats in which I live is an old one, for which no spare parts have been obtainable since before the war. One morning I opened the gates and was just about to step in when someone below pressed the button. Normally this would not matter, as the lift should not function with the gates open. However, on this occasion it started to go down suddenly and quickly. I remember saying, "No, this cannot happen," and then felt as if someone had pushed me hard from behind, and I fell me hard from behind, and I fell right inside and quite clear of the opening and the as floors as we went down. My weight falling with quite a crash stopped the lift between floors, for which I was very grateful, since it gave me time to stay quiet for a few minutes, declaring all the truths about God and man that came to my thought.
