Christian Science was presented to me when I was discouraged and very ill. Medical treatment had failed to heal me, and my only desire was to live until my children were large enough to care for themselves.

I had been a student of the Bible and a regular attendant of an orthodox church from early childhood, but never gained any joy or comfort from my study. I had a distorted idea of God and never felt that my prayers were answered. My prayer to know God better was answered, however, because I was led to Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 326), "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way." Then I learned about God, my relationship to Him, and the true meaning of prayer. My life changed from one of sickness to one of health, from unhappiness to joy, and this made me realize that substance is spiritual.

I am grateful for the consecrated life of Mary Baker Eddy, who made it possible for us to have the "Key to the Scriptures," which truly has unlocked the Bible for mankind. I am also very grateful that I had this religion to lean upon during the war years when all my children were in various parts of the world. They were protected through every experience and in every mile they traveled.
