"GOD'S GREAT GIFT"

The Christmas season brings to us gifts innumerable, but the greatest gift of all is that bestowed by God, the great Giver. We are reminded of this fact by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 262), "Christmas to me is the reminder of God's great gift,—His spiritual idea, man and the universe,—a gift which so transcends mortal, material, sensual giving that the merriment, mad ambition, rivalry, and ritual of our common Christmas seem a human mockery in mimicry of the real worship in commemoration of Christ's coming."

The understanding that man is the spiritual idea of God is the most precious gift ever given. It brings to us the blessings of true being, unfolds Love's sweet influences, and reveals the jewels of character reflected from perfect Mind and manifest in the perfect man.

Can we bestow greater blessings on one another at this Christmas season than to receive God's gracious gift, the precious truth of spiritual existence? Material gifts often disappoint or satiate. The gift of God is a perpetual endowment which will continue to bestow blessings throughout the years and reveal eternal Life as our natural heritage.
