Christian Science was brought to my attention about twelve years ago, but I did not take up the study of it seriously until about five years later.

While I was reading the testimonies in The Herald of Christian Science (French Edition) for the first time, these healings seemed so miraculous to me that, in spite of m great desire for healing, I despaired of having faith enough to obtain divine aid. At that time my whole hope rested on a blind faith, and I lacked spiritual understanding. I have gained this understanding through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At the same time I have quite naturally recovered my health; I had always been sickly. Asthma, bronchitis, chronic constipation, liver complaint, and colibacillosis—all disappeared step by step before a better understanding of God.

I had a long struggle before I gave up medicine completely. Fear returned several times, until the day when I finally grasped the fact that I did not need to help God heal me, but only to trust in God completely, to understand and love Him better. Up to that time I had known only medical slavery and all the pain and errors which result from it, but thanks to the untiring devotion and loving counsel of a practitioner and the daily study of the entire Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, the understanding I needed came to me—the knowledge that God is man's Life and that this Life is ever intact and harmonious. That was the healing.
